The base is a heavyweight jacquard striped cotton fabric woven with a prominent 3D textured pattern across the face that is reminiscent of complex sashiko stitched patterns. This is a kasuri dyed fabric, which creates tons of variation throughout the natural indigo dye, and across the shirt, seeking to create a wide spectrum of shades within the chosen dye. Kasuri dyeing is a traditonal Japanese dyeing technique that dates back over 800 years through its predecessor, Ikat deying, to the Ryukyu Kingdom, in modern-day Okinawa.
