S510HXII Samurai Cotton GL3 Selvedge Regular Straight Indigo
$529.00 CAD
Cut in Samurai's classic S510 regular straight leg, the S510HXII is the newest model from their Samurai Vintage Series collection, designed as faithful reproductions of vintage denim and the designs and details associated with their respective eras. The fabric used for these jeans is a brand new original Samurai fabric, woven with Samurai's own Japanese-grown cotton for the weft yarns on vintage GL3 power looms to produce a heavily textured slubby selvedge denim with a classic dry hand. Finished with kanari (beige) selvedge cotton pocketbags, custom iron buttons, hidden brass rivets, and a custom vintage-inspired leather patch.
The Toyoda GL3 was Japan's first power loom, created in the 1920s by Toyoda Loom Works, who would heavily innovate textile looms domestically and globally, before eventually transforming into the Toyota Motor Corporation we are all familiar with today. Few of these looms remain operational today, with the parts and skills required to keep them running being in very short supply. There is still one mill in Okayama with functioning GL3 looms, which is where this denim is woven for Samurai. The fabrics produced by these looms are imbued with some very special textile history, as well as plenty of incredible slubby and neppy texture, a product of the loosely woven fabrics that these looms can produce with the right oversight.
