D5727 Bengala Dye Western Shirt Red
Bengala, or Bengara, is a completely natural earth dye that gets its colour from iron oxide in the soil, and has been part of Japan's ancient mud-dyeing traditions for generations, being frequently used for pottery, painting, and homebuilding. It has a gentle yet substantial red tone that evokes clay, and combines well with the deep blue indigo dye for a complex colourway with blues, reds, and purples coming through, particularly as the denim fades with time. Earth dyed fabrics are known to hold their colour longer and stronger than plant dyes do, so the reds and purples should become more apparent with time as the indigo rubs off and fades, and since it is entirely naturally dyed, there is no synthetic waste when the dye is washed off; it simply returns to the earth from whence it came.
Studio D'Artisan's Bengala dyed denim weighs in at a very versatile 14oz, making it an excellent choice for most seasons and climates, ensuring you will have plenty of opportunity to see how this fabric fades. Woven on vintage shuttle looms at low tension, this denim showcases a heavy, prominent twill weave with classic, hairy texture and incredible depths of colour, as well as a soft but substantial hand from the dyeing process.
This fabric is available in a western shirt, a denim jacket, and a pair of relaxed tapered jeans. This is Studio D'Artisan's classic western shirt, featuring dual western chest pockets, western shoulder and back yokes, and snap buttons.
