Service Boot 2030 BCT Horween Black Teacore CXL

Viberg's Service Boot is directly based on their original model, first produced in 1931. A similar pattern was also used by multiple nations as a standard issue military boot during WWII, however Viberg's quintessential Service Boot is modeled after the Canadian military's WWII Service Boot pattern.

Our newest custom Brooklyn Clothing x Viberg collaboration boot is a modified version of our custom Horween CXL makeups, which we have offered as part of our core collection for years now. We chose that makeup, Viberg's 2030 Service Boot with a partially structured straight toecap, because it is the quintessential Viberg boot pattern, complete with some additional versatile details for a truly everyday boot. We also chose Horween's Chromexcel leather because it is arguably the best everyday leather available for this kind of boot, and this version features a beautiful partially struck-through black "teacore" hide that has retained the brown "core" of the leather, so it will begin to show through on high-wear areas of the boot, elevating CXL's already excellent patina potential into something really, really special. We felt that a brogue toecap would be best, especially once the brown core begins to show in areas, but also chose it to further differentiate this new makeup from our core Black CXL Service Boots.

Chromexcel is a hot-stuffed combination tanned leather that goes through a lengthy tanning process at Horween's facility in Chicago, where it spends a month traveling from floor to floor, becoming heavily impregnated wiith grease and wax in the process. The end product is a soft, supple, and flexible hide which is packed full of oils, which gives Chromexcel the excellent pullup that it is known for - when the leather is flexed or bent, the oils are displaced and beautiful tonal highs and lows become visible. CXL only gets better with age, and taking care of the leather is as simple as it gets. Frequent brushing will blend scuffs and bring wicked patina, while the inherent oils in the hide keep it from drying out quickly.
