John Lofgren uses Dr. Edward Munson's traditional military last, specially designed for U.S. Military  Service Boots in 1912. Dr. Munson studied the feet of thousands of soldiers over roughly half a decade in order to develop a supremely comfortable and rugged last that fits virtually all foot shapes, and would allow soldiers to perform their duties in WWII. The Munson last runs large, we recommend sizing down one full size from your standard Brannock measurement. Consider a half size if you have a wide foot, and if you have a very wide foot you may even prefer going true to size (this is the benefit of the Munson, to be able to adjust for width as it is not an elongated last) but try a half size first as this applies to very few individuals.

John Lofgren Bootmaker M-43 Service Shoes are not simple reproductions of WWII U.S. Army service shoes. Not just another boondocker. They are a modern-day piece de resistance of footwear, carefully designed to meet the needs of contemporary life, but still look very classic, down to the distinctive Munson last shape.

The Munson last was patented in 1912 by U.S. Army doctor, Edward Munson. Dr. Munson perfected his last after studying the feet of more than two thousand soldiers. JLB M-43 Service Shoes, like all John Lofgren Bootmaker footwear, are totally built in Japan with master craftsmanship in all details.
