Wagara is the Japanese word for traditional Japanese geometric patterns, many of which date back 1000 years to the Heian era. These patterns have been woven into kimonos and textiles of all sorts ever since, and have developed their own inherent meanings after being passed down for centuries upon centuries. Narihirabishi is one such pattern, showcasing a repeating geometric pattern of diamond shapes, named after the Heian-era poet Ariwara no Narihira, who apparently liked the design very much. This pattern is over 1300 years old, and carries the meaning of prosperity for one's descendants, and good health.

As the name implies, the fabric this Samurai workshirt is made with features the traditional Narihirabishi wagara. It is a unique double-woven cloth with a lightweight two-ply nature, featuring an exterior of indigo-dyed threads and a white interior. The fabric is quite soft and comfortable from the start, and by choosing a double-weave fabric Samurai was able to imbue the fabric with not only a tonal indigo Narihirabishi diamond pattern, but also simple white water chestnut sashiko designs and subtle tonal indigo goldfish across the garment. This is really something special.
