SD-1001S GL3 15oz Japanese Selvedge Denim Regular Straight
Long before their automotive arm became a multinational corporation, Toyoda Loom Works was manufacturing some of Japan's most important textile looms, Type-G Automatic Looms, and the Toyoda G3. Created in the 1920s, the G3 was Japan's first power loom, as well as their first selvedge loom, a landmark in textile history that advanced textile manufacturing globally. Without the foundation set by these simple, old school looms, Toyota Motor Corporation likely would not be what it is today. Few of these looms are still in operation today, as they are fragile in nature, lack replacement parts, and require an expert artisan, intimately familiar with their function, in order to run properly. There is only one mill remaining in Okayama which uses vintage G3 looms, so of course Studio D'Artisan ensured to partner with them in order to manufacture this one-of-a-kind 15oz slubby Japanese selvedge denim. This denim is woven on Toyoda GL3 looms, the G3's direct sucessor.
With decades of denim expertise under their belt, as well as direct experience with selvedge denim woven on G3 looms, SDA have approached these jeans with even more attention to detail than their already over-engineered approach. The depth of the indigo dye, the roughness and thickness of specially selected yarns, and the delicate balancing of the loom's tension are all incredibly important factors which SDA laboured over, through much trial and error, in order to create what is absolutely one of their finest pairs of jeans yet. These are steeped in the vintage character of the old-school vintage looms used to weave the fabric, producing a texture that is unquestionably unique to the GL3 looms themselves, and offer plenty of complex, crosshatching slubby texture amongst a bed of deep, dark indigo shades.
