S526XX17OZL-25TH 25th Anniversary 17oz "Sasaki Kojiro" Selvedge Denim Regular Straight Indigo
$519.00 CAD
Samurai's 25th Anniversary Special "Sasaki Kojiro" model honours Kojiro Sasaki, a master swordsman from the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods, and is one of the samurai depicted on Samurai's leather patches, alongside Musashi Miyamoto. Kojiro was, and still is, one of Japan's most famous samurai, and was the rival of Musashi. He is known for mastering and wielding nodachi, a type of very long katana - he called his sword monohoshizao ("The Laundry Drying Pole") in reference to the long poles that were used to dry laundry. Kojiro died in 1612 in a duel with Musashi on Ganryu Island, which is one of Japan's most famous samurai duels.
This is a new, special 17oz left-hand twill selvedge denim created for this anniversary model, featuring a rough yet soft hand, due to the use of Samurai's original slubby "Zero" yarns. This meeting of paradoxes was inspired by the flexible yet rough style of swordsmanship displayed by Kojiro, who is said to have once sliced a swallow in half using a sword over a meter long. The design is a classic style with a buckle back and a regular straight silhouette.
