When it comes to 3sixteen's "flagship offerings," a few things come to mind: classic cotton t-shirts, Japanese selvedge denim, and perhaps even their seasonal cotton flannel shirts, and this Type 3s Shadow Selvedge Denim Jacket is right up there with the best of them. As the name implies, the Type 3s is 3sixteen's interpretation of the classic American Type III, the greatest denim jacket of all time. Levi's introduced the Type III in the late 1960's, replacing the Type II that had replaced the Type I/Ranch Blouse a few years prior, and it has been the defacto denim jacket ever since. With it's unmistakable "V" stitches, angled chest pockets, handwarmer pockets, lack of pleats, and a slightly longer and more tapered fit when compared to its Type I and Type II predecessors, the Type III is a truly timeless piece of menswear that looks good with everything. Everyone needs a good denim jacket, and this is one of the best.
The 120x shadow selvedge in particular is what 3sixteen's Type 3s is most ubiqitous with; a 14.5oz Japanese selvedge denim with an indigo-dyed warp and weft. This double indigo fabric ages unbelievably well, as double indigo produces high contrast electric blues as they fade, which will eventually work their way into a truly unique fade with unmatched shades of blue once they are washed a few times and the blues become a bit more subtle. Featuring two chest and two handwarmer pockets, soft corduroy lining in the cuffs and pocketbags, crosscut back yoke, and selvedge cut placket, the Type 3s is finished with branded nickel buttons, zigzag stand-collar reinforcement stitching, an interior roughout leather patch, and chainstitched construction.
