Danner Portland Select was specifically created for the worker, the entrepreneur and the modern explorer — those who share the spirit of craftsmanship and adventure that brought Charles Danner westward to Oregon in 1932. Made in USA, as they have been for nearly 90 years, from premium full-grain leather, waterproof GORE-TEX liners and rugged Vibram® outsoles, these boots are built for those who log the hours, in the workshop or on the trails of the Cascades and beyond.

Made in Danner's Portland, Oregon factory and inspired by the original Mountain Light, the Mountain Pass was created to be a lighter weight and more versatile hiking boot that still reflects our classic Danner styling. Built with light hikes and city streets in mind, the overall design is inspired by the original Mountain Light with an updated construction method that integrates the shank, midsole and lasting board into a single piece. This new, unified platform, combined with a low profile Vibram outsole, allows a significant weight reduction and creates out-of-the-box comfort that doesn't come standard with most classic hiking boots. 

The Mountain Pass Horween Rio features full-grain Horween Chromexcel leather uppers, a truly premium, high quality option for durability, made right in the USA. Chromexcel leather is produced by the family-owned Horween tannery in Chicago, using time-honored techniques and formulas that were developed nearly 100 years ago. Chromexcel is comfortable, durable and develops a beautiful worn-in look over time, we consider it one of the best casual leathers available. This natural leather treatment provides a slightly unique aesthetic for each hide, which may result in some variation amongst pairs of boots. On any boot that uses Horween Chromexcel leathers, you may see a slight amount of blooming, which is a natural characteristic of that type of leather.

Handcrafted to provide a wider platform, Danner's legendary stitchdown construction offers increased stability underfoot, as well as being a rebuildable construction method - Danner, as well as many cobblers, are able to resole the boots when needed, extending their lifetimes exponentially and making them lifetime boots with proper care.

This EE width is designed to fit an average width foot, similar to a D width. Portland made 503 last has a casual fit without compromising Danner's comfortable lace-to-toe construction. Fits true to size.
