4555 "Hinode" Heavyweight Flannel Cruiser Shirt Jacket
Studio D'Artisan Cruiser Shirt Jackets feature original Japanese fabrics with original D'Artisan patterns. Both the fabric and the garment design appeal to their inspirations found in American outdoorsman wear" Hunting, hiking, and rural life. The pattern is clearly inspired by traditional American buffalo checks, the ubiquitous flannel patterns, but have been broken up and more more unique and interesting by the D'Artisan team. The result is a fabric that is clearly an Americana outdoors shirt jacket, without looking identical to all the buffalo checks on the street. The universal, classic patterns are arranged in the D'Artisan style and dyed using traditional Japanese dyes: "Hinode" is dyed with Akane dye, while "Tasogare" is dyed with Indigo dye. The Cruiser is cut like an overshirt using a thick, superheavyweight 100% cotton weave with a coarse finish, and you can wear it as either a thick flannel or a jacket.
This "Hinode" red colourway is traditionally dyed using "Akane" dye, from the roots of the Akane plant, also known as common madder. Akane dyeing is said to have been used all over the world since ancient times, just like natural indigo. It has a very long history in Japan, with an account of Himiko offering an Akane-dyed textile as a gift. In the past, in the era of Prince Shotoku, it was a colour reserved for nobles, and was restricted from commoners.
